Children's Choice for Hearing and Talking

This oral school in Redwood City educates children on campus through the second grade, and provides mainstreaming support afterwards. For more than 30 years, the school has emphasized the use of residual hearing.The school depends heavily on fundraising to support its efforts, which include participation in a regional pediatric cochlear implant program. In addition, JWPOSD offers a three-week summer camp program and has originated a Rhythmic Phonetics program for improved speech.
Oralingua
Another oral school with a rich history is the Oralingua school in Whittier, California. Oralingua serves children from birth to 10 years old, emphasizing an auditory-oral approach. As with most of the oral schools, the objective is to prepare the students for mainstreaming.The school's web site offers students and alumni a Voices of Experience section to state what their experience at the school has meant to them. Plus, an online newsletter, Expressions, is available (and can be subscribed to by e-mail).
Fundraising is a necessity for Oralingua as it seems to be for all schools for the deaf. The school raises some of its funds through credit card affiliation, United Way participation, and an annual social event.
